Tartine Bakery

I had a chance to go to Tartine Bakery in San Francisco last weekend. I've been wanting to try this place and I was so happy when my girlfriend took me there! We had banana cream pie and Croque Monsieur. very yummy :) We got there around 6pm and people were constantly lining up until 8pm when they closed.
I love good food! We need to try Bar Tartine next time.

3 months

It's been 3 months after last chemo. My new hair is soooooooooo soft. I can't stop touching my head when I'm home...

It's still too short to go without headcover. Maybe one more month.

One big step

It's been 12 weeks after last chemo. (I will upload my hair picture soon :) According to my doctor, my period should come back within 6 months. However, there is 20% chance that chemo might cause permanent infertility. That's why I preserved my fertility in February with egg freezing.

Since my surgery got postponed, I was at work like usual and I started to feel something funny in my stomach. Later that day, my period came. I still had my period for first 2 months of chemo until March and it stopped. I can't see how my system shut down by chemo and reopen, like hair growth. I've anticipated for my body to go back normal, although I've been feeling totally normal. This is a big step for my recovery. Can't complain about bad cramps...

Surgery postponed

My reconstruction surgery got postponed.

I received a call from my doctor's office on Wed. "Hospital called your insurance company today and they said you don't have insurance. We called them earlier this week and there was no problem. You need to check with them."

("whaaaaaaaaat?")

When I called my insurance company (Anthem, formerly Blue Cross), I was told the entire group I belong to got terminated. We (my boss and co-workers) all belong to the same group! It turned out there was some billing problem with administration and the group administrator was able to talk to insurance company to fix the problem. Although we got restated (supposedly), it didn't happen on time for my hospital to process their paper work for my surgery, so no surgery this week...

I asked my doctor to reschedule my surgery after Labor Day weekend. I have at least 2 more weeks to play golf, go to kickboxing class, etc.

nice stranger

Although I wear a scarf to cover my head everyday and it's a bit obvious that I don't have hair, people usually don't come up to me. The other day, I was at Thai restaurant for dinner and the waitress asked me if I'm going through chemo. I said "yes, I finished about 3 month ago." and she said she did chemo therapy 4 years ago for breast cancer. She is Thai and very pretty. She looked about the same age as me. She is still on medication (tamoxifen), the one I'm taking. Then, she said "You look good. You will be fine." in very gracious way. From that moment, we felt like we've known each other. It is funny how people feel connected.

There are so many people who had told me about their personal experiences with cancer. It's just amazing. And they all live strong and enjoy every moment of life. I wouldn't have known what they had gone through if I didn't have cancer.

I will not need a scarf soon. (I still look like a monkey though.) I will not look like a cancer patient but I will always be the one who knows how it's like, hopefully the one to encourage others like her.
